Possibilities through learning
About Babanawa University
A world-class institution committed to academic excellence, innovation, and national development — located in Olamaboro LGA, Kogi State.

Colonel A. U. Babanawa (Rtd.) is a respected military veteran, security and sports entrepreneur, philanthropist, and education advocate whose life has been dedicated to service, leadership, and community development.
After serving for 35 years in the Nigerian Army, including leadership roles within the Infantry Corps at both national and international levels, he devoted his experience and resources to creating opportunities for others. Through successful business ventures, youth development initiatives, and community service, he empowered countless individuals and contributed to social and economic growth.
His passion for education led to the establishment of Babanawa College, which has helped thousands of students gain access to higher education. Recognizing the transformative power of learning, he envisioned an institution that would provide quality university education while fostering innovation, character, and leadership. This vision gave birth to Babanawa University and the first Chancellor for the university shall be Col A. U. Babanawa.
For about three decades, Col. Babanawa and his family have sustained a strong commitment to education through the establishment and management of Babanawa College, a secondary school founded in 1997. Over the years, the institution has successfully supported more than 30,000 students in gaining admission into universities and tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
In 2021, he established Babanawa Polytechnic Limited to actively support secondary school graduates through tuition-free, non-residential preparatory programmes aimed at improving performance in WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations. Through this intervention, more than 1,500 students have successfully secured admission into universities and other higher institutions within Nigeria.
The vision for Babanawa University emerged from a deep desire by Col A. U. Babanawa (Rtd.) to establish quality education in character and learning through world-class teaching and research methods. In 2024, he began working with the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) towards the establishment and licensing of the institution as a University.
The establishment of Babanawa University therefore represents not a new undertaking, but the continuation and expansion of a long-standing educational and community development legacy initiated by Col. Babanawa and now being advanced by the next generation.
Vision
“To advance knowledge, educate students, build entrepreneurial skills to enable people to serve the nation and all race through research, innovation, and partnership.”
Mission
“To provide quality education in character and learning through world-class teaching and research methods, and to foster a culture of resilience, creativity, innovation, and responsibility that will equip our students for leadership in all fields of human endeavours.”
Babanawa University is different because it is built on a clear mission: to combine academic excellence with discipline, innovation, and real-world impact. At the heart of its model is a “learn-and-earn” strategy, where students are not only taught theory but are actively guided to develop entrepreneurship skills that can translate into income-generating ideas while still in school. This approach prepares students for self-reliance and job creation, not just job seeking.
The University also offers a deliberately designed curriculum focused on strong knowledge transfer. Teaching goes beyond memorization to practical application, critical thinking, and problem-solving, ensuring students truly understand and can apply what they learn. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on building research capacity. Students are trained to ask the right questions, explore solutions, and contribute to innovation in their fields.
Supported by committed lecturers and a disciplined learning environment, the institution nurtures character, leadership, and responsibility. In essence, Babanawa University does not just produce graduates — it develops innovative thinkers, entrepreneurs, and responsible leaders prepared for real-world challenges.
Babanawa University is located on a serene, green campus in the heart of Igah-Keje, thoughtfully designed to enhance user experience, inspire creativity, and promote focused learning.
